Galena Tech Institute STEM Scholarship
If you are a high school senior in Northern Nevada planning to pursue a degree or certification in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) or technical field, the Galena Tech Institute Scholarship is designed to support your transition into the professional world. Whether you are heading to a university for engineering, a community college for advanced manufacturing, or a trade school for technical certifications, we want to recognize your dedication to building the future of our region.
Galena Tech Institute awards at least one $1,000 scholarship annually. At its sole discretion, the Institute may award multiple scholarships in a single year to exceptional candidates.
Why Apply?
Financial Support: Helps cover tuition, specialized tools, textbooks, or lab fees.
Recognition: Boosts your resume and highlights your commitment to the Northern Nevada technical community.
Flexibility: Unlike many awards, Galena Tech scholarships remain valid for two years from the date of the award, giving you flexibility in your enrollment timeline.
Step 1: Understand the Requirements
Before beginning your application, ensure you meet the following criteria:
Location: You must be a current high school senior attending school in Northern Nevada.
Field of Study: You must plan to enroll in a post-secondary program (University, Community College, or Accredited Trade School) in a STEM or technical field.
Application Deadline: March 30, 2027, by 11:59 PM PT.
Notification Date: Awardees will be notified by April 30.
Step 2: Prepare Your Portfolio or Project
A key part of the application is demonstrating your “hands-on” aptitude. You must submit evidence of a technical project you have completed. This could be:
A link to a GitHub repository or original code.
A digital portfolio showing CAD designs (Fusion 360, etc.) or 3D-printed assemblies.
Photos or video of a mechanical/electrical project (e.g., a robotics component, a restored engine, or a custom-built computer).
Provide a brief written description (one page) explaining the project’s purpose and the technical skills you utilized to complete it.
Step 3: Secure a Letter of Recommendation
Your application must include three letters of recommendation from a teacher, mentor, or employer who can vouch for your technical skills and work ethic.
Format: The letter must be on official letterhead (school or company) and provided as a PDF.
Content: The letter should highlight standout qualities, specific technical accomplishments, and why the recommender believes you are a fit for the Galena Tech mission.
Submission: This can be uploaded directly to the application portal or emailed by the recommender to academe@galenatech.org.
Step 4: Complete the Application Form
Visit the Galena Tech Institute Scholarship Portal to fill out your personal information and provide responses to the following short-form questions:
1. Personal Statement: Describe your aspirations in STEM and what inspired you to pursue a technical career in Northern Nevada.
2. Technical Journey: What have you learned about yourself, personally and academically, through your involvement in projects like robotics, coding, or shop classes?
3. Community Impact: How do you hope to use your skills to contribute to the local Northern Nevada industrial or technical corridor?
Step 5: Submit and Follow Up
Ensure all materials, including the project link/file and the recommendation letters, are submitted before the March 30 deadline.
Important Note on Expiration: Galena Tech Institute scholarships are good for a period of two years from the time they are awarded. If you are taking a gap year or starting a multi-year certification program, these funds will remain available to you as long as you begin your studies within that 24-month window.
